AFMA announces Commonwealth fisheries levy rates and due dates for 2024–25
The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) has announced the Management and Research Levy rates for 2024–25 and due dates for payment.
Commonwealth fisheries concession owners pay the annual levy to cover the costs associated with managing and ensuring the sustainability of Commonwealth fisheries in which they own fishing concessions.
Levy rates have gone down this financial year in 3 fisheries and one sector of the Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery (SESSF). The rates have increased in the other 11 fisheries and 2 sectors of the SESSF.
The levy rate for each fishery varies due to several factors, including over-collection or under-collection in the previous year, changes in management and research priorities and fluctuating administration costs.
AFMA remains committed to providing efficient and cost-effective fisheries management and continues to work closely with the Commonwealth Fisheries Association (CFA) to identify opportunities for future efficiencies.
AFMA will charge the total 2024–25 levy in 3 instalments. The first invoice is expected to be issued on 15 January 2025, with payment due by 12 February 2025.
